The application principle of Copper-Zinc Alloy (CuZn) in water treatment is primarily based on electrochemical and redox reactions. Specifically, the Copper-Zinc Alloy purifies water through the following processes:

  1. Electrochemical Reaction
Copper-Zinc Alloy (CuZn) is composed of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn). When water flows through the alloy, these two metals undergo electrochemical reactions. In the water medium, the zinc and copper particles interact with pollutants in the water, transforming harmful substances through electron exchange and potential differences.

  2. Redox Reaction
Copper and zinc in CuZn alloy react with pollutants in the water (such as chlorine, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, etc.) through redox reactions. For example:

  • Removal of Chlorine: Copper and zinc, through redox reactions, convert free chlorine (Cl₂) in the water into harmless chloride (Cl⁻). This reaction effectively removes chlorine from the water while maintaining water quality.
  • Removal of Heavy Metals: CuZn alloy can remove toxic heavy metals in the water, such as lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), and copper (Cu), by reacting with these metal ions, transforming them into harmless compounds or fixing them to prevent their entry into drinking water.
  1. Prevention of Scale and Biofilm
Copper-Zinc Alloy (CuZn) also has antibacterial properties, inhibiting the growth of bacteria and microorganisms. In addition, it can prevent calcium and magnesium ions in the water from combining with other minerals to form scale, slowing down the formation of scale on pipes, equipment, and other water treatment facilities.

  2. Hydrogen Sulfide Removal
Copper-Zinc Alloy (CuZn) effectively removes hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) from water, which is typically a source of odor. Through redox reactions, hydrogen sulfide is transformed into harmless sulfate, eliminating odors from the water.

  3. Long-lasting Effect
Since CuZn alloy is a durable filtration material, it can continue to effectively remove pollutants from the water without the rapid failure seen in other traditional filtration materials. Its filtration life is relatively long, typically lasting for months or even years in water treatment systems.
